(hits: 2083 )
Serves 6-8 slices
Entered/Updated 2002-11-22 16:19:26
Country/Provence not provided
Ingredients:
6 to 8 slices of sweet French Bread, crusts removed, sliced 2" thick and cubed
1 1/4 cups of milk
2 eggs
2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 tsp ground nutmeg
3 tsp cinnamon
1 cup Syrup (Maple, Marionberry, or Kumquat)
1 basket of berries (blueberries, raspberries)**
Powdered sugar
Instructions:
Spray glass pan with cooking spray then pour in syrup.
Spoon fruit over the syrup.
Place bread slices on top of syrup.
Blend milk, eggs and vanilla and pour over the bread, pressing the bread gently down into the milk. Grate nutmeg over the top, sprinkle with cinnamon, cover and refrigerate overnight.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until the bread is golden brown on top and puffed up like a souffle. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately with extra syrup on the side.
Notes:
**Any fruit will do. Sliced apples or peaches work nicely when in season.
