Lynn's Stroganoff

(hits: 2131 )
Serves Dinner for 2 w/ leftovers
Entered/Updated 2002-11-22 16:19:26
Added by Lynn USA, CA
Ingredients:
Cooked Noodles (short, flat type)
Top Round Steak (1/2 to 3/4 pound)
Seasoned flour (salt & pepper) to coat meat
Mushrooms (8 oz)
1 Onion
2 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
1/2 Pint sour cream (8 oz.)
Inexpensive white wine
Instructions:
Cut meat in 1/2 inch slices (across the grain of the meat, can pound meat with mallet or side of a small plate to tenderize before slicing)
Slice Mushrooms
Chop Onion
Put seasoned flour in large baggie, add meat a little at a time and shake till all meat is coated.
Heat about a tablespoon of oil (or enough to coat bottom) in skillet (medium-high heat).
When hot (a drop of water will sizzle) add the strips of meat & brown.
Remove meat & brown onion (add a little oil if necessary)
Add mushrooms and garlic to onion & cook until mushrooms are limp (put lid on to assist in this or cook mushrooms in a little butter [about a tablespoon] in a separate pan)
Re-add meat
Add about a 1/2 cup of wine, heat through and stir to get any browned "stuff" off pan bottom (good flavor)
Turn off heat & stir in sour cream, don't boil or it will curdle.
Serve over warm noodles
Notes:
Add oil when necessary. Can make the poor man's stroganoff with ground meat instead of steak and use cream of mushroom soup instead of the wine and sour cream. Wine Note: While the words 'inexpensive' are somewhat subjective, it is not recomeded to use anything with a screw-on cap. :)
