The Shadow Rising (Author: Robert Jordan)

Though not as intricate as Tolkien, Robert Jordan has placed himself as near to the top as possible with his interweaving tales of sheer power. Where Tolkien told much in a few pages, Rober Jordan picks up and tells just as much in a greater space. In my opinion, Jordan uses the extra real estate to weave more plots together, and create a world as fascinating as any I have ever read. One thing I have learned in reading his works: never take the smallest event for granted. He does not appear to use "filler," rather, he puts small scenes where they are needed, and weaves them into grand plots sometimes three books later in the series.
Addiction Rating: 4.0, Overall Rating: 5.0.
