School Stories (Author: Unknown)
--------- The teacher was testing the class on memory of things heard. She read the story of the three blind men and the elephant and later put a question. "Three men," she said, "examined an elephant and one reported it to be like a tree, the second said it to be like a wall, and the third thought it to be like a rope. What kind of men were they?" One pupil, smarter than the others, shouted, "Specialists!"
In school, what the teachers say goes. Of course they keep wanting it to stay!
A professor who had taught for many years was counseling a young teacher. "You will discover," he said, "that in nearly every class there is a youngster eager to argue. Your first impulse will be to silence him. I advise you to think carefully before doing so. He's probably the only one listening."
A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a college education, he may steal the whole railroad.
We have a lot of work left in front of us, it seems as if we are destined to do it over and over again. It reminds me of a story about a school teacher. One rainy morning, she was helping little Michael struggle into his rubber boots. She grunted and puffed, and finally squeezed them on. Little Mikey thanked her and said, "You know, these aren't mine." With a groan, the teacher sat down next to the boy and with great effort finally pulled them off. "Now," She inquired, Who DO they belong to?" "My brother," explained the boy, "but my mother makes me wear them".
